Hawks finish with 8-4 record
The Holly Springs High School baseball team ended the regular season with three wins before falling in the opening round of the Class 3A state playoffs.
The Hawks, on Monday, April 13, at home, cruised past Ashland 15-1 and then got a 70 forfeit win in game two of the doubleheader.
They earned 15 walks in the 14-run victory. Derwin Hamer was two of four at the plate for Holly Springs. Getting one hit each were Joshua Walker, Karlo Strickland and Braylyn Alexander. Jeremiah Dowdy scored three runs. Walker stole four bases.
On Tuesday, April 15, the Hawks hosted H.W. Byers on Senior Night and crushed the rival Lions 19-4.
Leading a nine-hit attack for Holly Springs were Walker with three hits, including a double, and Strickland with two hits, one of those also a double. Adding one hit apiece were Dowdy, Martrey Stewart, Alexander and Camaryion Turnage. Strickland and Alexander scored three runs apiece. Strickland and Dowdy each swiped four bases.
The Hawks then saw their season end Saturday with a pair of playoff losses, 15-0 and 16-0, to Alcorn Central on the road. They finished at 8-4 overall and second in Region 2-3A with a 4-2 mark.
