Hawks defeat Byhalia, 44-8

It’s always an intense battle when the Holly Springs Hawks meet the Byhalia Indians. A huge crowd came out to support their favorite team. According to school officials, 2,000 plus fans were expected at the homecoming. Byhalia High School Indians were ripped 44-8 in Friday’s non-league challenge with the Holly Springs Hawks.

The Hawks raced out to a 30-0 halftime lead and would never look back, defeating the Indians 44-8.

Quarterback Deonte Jefferson finished 9 of 13 with 105 passing yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Jefferson had seven carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns, giving him a total of five touchdowns for the game.

Star running back Kentravian Kinkle finished with 14 carries for 101 yards.

With 3-2 standings, the Hawks open up district play on the road at Independence High School on Friday, Sept. 29. The Independence Wildcats come into the 3A Region 2 challenge with a 3-2 record. The Wildcats trounced Strayhorn, 54-0, in a non-league challenge.

Byhalia Indians now sport a 1-4 record. They take the field this week when they travel to West Lowndes for a non-league challenge on Friday. Byhalia will meet the Panthers team coming off a 35-6 loss to Baldwyn. The Panthers record now stands at 1-3.

The games begin at 7 p.m.
