Hawks crush Ripley
Nothing is more exciting in the City of Holly Springs than Holly Springs High School Hawks basketball. The buzz around the city this summer has been nothing but excitement after hiring firstyear head coach Luke Chapman.
The Hawks traveled to Ripley High School to open up the season. From the tip to the final buzzer, the Hawks were in the driver’s seat, holding Ripley’s offense under 20 points for the entire game.
The Hawks defeated the Tigers 63-18, sending a message to the rest of the state that Hawk basketball is back.
Chapman said it felt great to get a first career win as a head coach.
“I’m proud of my guys for having my back tonight. We’ve all got to start somewhere and I’m glad my first win came in game one of the season,” Chapman said.
“It’s good to win the first game of the season, but we’ve got to realize it’s just one game.” The Hawks have a long season ahead of them.
“We will use this one win to learn from, but our mission remains the same, “Get Better.” That’s what I preach to our guys each and every day.
“We’ve got to be more consistent throughout the course of the entire game. We came out lethargic and tense. It took us until the second half to blow the game open. I’d like to see us be more aggressive to start games,” Chapman said.
