Holly Springs High school senior Derek Fountain played in the 30th annual AlabamaMississippi All-Star Classic boys basketball game on March 13. He scored five points, pulled down four rebounds, blocked two shots and dished out two assists for Mississippi, which lost 118-97. The Alabama boys improved to 16-14 in the series that began in 1991. Alabama was on top 54-44 at halftime and outscored Mississippi 64-53 in the second half. The game was played at Mississippi College's A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton. Alabama also won the girls all-star contest, 70-63. Fountain helped lead coach Kenzaki Jones' Hawks to the Class 3A final four this past season in Jackson. He averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and one assist per game. The Hawks finished with a 25-8 record. Fountain, who has qualified academically to move on to the D-1 level, is undecided on a college choice. He also recently received post-season recognition from both the Clarion-Ledger and Daily Journal.
