Potts Camp has a new face in town, and it’s a face well known across the state.
Coach Richard Russo is bringing an impressive 20-year coaching resumé to southeast Marshall County. Russo looks to lead the Cardinals to new levels of success.
He is a member of the Northeast Mississippi Football Coaches Associates board of directors, and also the Mississippi Athletic Conference football statewide president.
“The kids don’t care what you know about football, until they know you care,” Russo said.
Potts Camp is going into year 13 as a member of the Mississippi High School Activities Association. The Cardinals have only seen the postseason twice in the last 12 seasons, but, with Russo leading the charge, the Cardinals are hopeful he will bring those winning ways to campus.
Some Cardinal players to keep an eye on this season are: senior Peyton Aldridge, QB; senior Peyton Baldwin, WR/DB; junior Ethan Bridges, OL/DL; junior Kendrick Isom, OL/DL; and senior Ryan Jones.
‘Meet the Cardinals’ will be held August 19. The Cardinals will host the preseason jamboree as they take on the Thrasher Rebels.
The Cardinals open the regular season on the road on the Falkner Eages turf August 26.
“I would like to ask every Cardinal fan to come out and support the Cardinals this year,” Russo said.
