Deming going to Hinds

Jessica Deming, a senior at Marshall Academy, signed a softball scholarship Friday in the school library with Hinds Community College. She is seated with her parents, Jerry and Leigh Ann Deming; and standing is her head coach, Carlton Gibson. Deming helped lead the Lady Patriots to the Class AA state championship this past season. Coach Gibson said she got the “clutch hit” in the seventh inning versus Tri-County to win the state title. He also added that the second baseman made a big defensive play with the bases loaded in the championship game, throwing a runner out from her knees. “She is one of the best defensive players I’ve ever coached,” Gibson said.
