Dawkins camp proves successful

Kenny Dawkins, who recently retired from professional basketball, was back at his alma mater July 10-11 to host the 14K Training Basketball Camp. The camp at Holly Springs High School was free for boys and girls ages 6 to 18, and it was a huge success. Dawkins welcomed 52 campers each day with a focus on skills and development training.

“The future looks bright for the athletes from Marshall County and the surrounding areas,” he said. “I would like to thank all who contributed to the success of the camp. It is much appreciated.”

Areas of emphasis included shooting, ball handling, defense and basketball IQ. Dawkins helped lead the Hawks to back-to-back state titles in 2004 and 2005. The high school Dandy Dozen and all-state player then excelled at the college and professional levels. He retired in April after 17 years of professional basketball overseas.
