Davis, Northwest stopped in NJCAA tournament

The Northwest Mississippi Community College women's basketball season ended on Wednesday, March 25 in a first-round loss to Dodge City, Kansas at the NJCAA Division I national tournament. The Lady Rangers ended the year as Region 23 champions and with an overall record of 23-9.

The tournament was being held at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Marshall Academy’s Jhaniya Davis, a sophomore starting guard, scored two points for Northwest in the first-round loss to the 10thseeded Conquistadors. Dekrya Mitchell led the Lady Rangers in scoring with 14 points.

Northwest was stymied by Dodge City in the first half, falling behind 40-22 at halftime after being held to nine points in the second quarter. However, the Lady Rangers recovered with a strong second half of play, although it was not enough to recover.
