DaQuan Smith receives pro league honor
DaQuan Smith is doing just fine in Russia, on and off the basketball court.
The 2018 graduate of Holly Springs High School is in his first season with Dinamo Vladivostok, a professional team playing in Russian Superleague 1. He was recently named Superleague Player of the Week when he scored a game-high 26 points in a win over Metallurg MGN. He also had six assists and four rebounds in the contest.
Over the last five games, he is averaging 23.8 points, 4.6 assists and four three-pointers per game. He drilled seven threes in one game.
“The season is going well,” Smith said via a text message. “I’ve been playing very well the last eight games, and as a team we are tied for first place. I’m enjoying life in Russia. It’s cold, but other than that everything is nice – the food, the people, etc.”
Smith, 26, was a star on the court for the Holly Springs Hawks. He scored 2,788 career points. He tallied 30 or more points nine times as a high school senior, including 47- and 50-point games. He was a four-time all-state player. He played college basketball at both Murray State and Radford.
