Daquan Smith reaches 1,000 career points

Former Holly Springs high school Dandy Dozen Daquan Smith of the Radford Highlanders hit a National Collegiate Athletic Association milestone, reaching the 1,000-point mark in his collegiate career.

Smith became Holly Springs’s all-time leading scorer his senior year in high school, scoring nearly 3,000 points.

“It’s honestly a blessing because if you would have told me I was going to achieve something like this after my freshman year and I broke my ankle, I wouldn’t have believed you, so it’s just a blessing,” Smith said.

Smith said he feels so far, this has been the best season yet of his collegiate career.

After being selected to the Big South postseason all-conference team, Smith checked in as a 2023-24 first-team preseason all-conference member for the Big South conference.

“It’s not easy, but I have great people around me to help me keep going,” Smith said.

Smith averages 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists per game for the Radford Highlanders, Radford University in Virginia.
