County rivals split games on court
Each school picked up a win Tuesday night, Nov. 30, when Potts Camp hosted H.W. Byers, and both in the same fashion.
Cruising to dominant victories when the Marshall County rivals collided were the Byers boys and the Potts Camp girls.
The Lions, red hot to start the season, scorched the nets once again on their way to an 80-52 win over the Cardinals.
Michael James put Byers on top early with a jump shot in the lane. Devin Moore’s dunk on a fast break pushed the lead to 17-6, and two minutes later Jabarri Wright hit a three from the corner to make it 22-8.
The unbeaten Lions led 26-8 after one quarter, 44-17 at halftime and 68-36 at the end of the third.
Top guns for the winning squad were Wright with 20, James with 19 and Chris Isom Jr. with 15. Wright scored 11 of his points in the first-quarter outburst.
Josh Blake was the only Potts Camp player scoring in double digits. He had 10. Nine other Cardinals scored.
The Potts Camp girls followed the same path to victory as they jumped out to a big lead and coasted to the 71-22 win over Byers.
The Lady Cardinals’ advantage was 18-4 at the end of the opening quarter.
At the 3:49 mark of the second, Malasha Faulkner’s drive made it 31-4.
The lead was 37-6 at halftime and 62-16 at the conclusion of the third period.
Leading the way for Potts Camp were Faulkner with 21 points and Rakyiah Stricklen with 19. Jakeidra Lesure added 10.
The top scorer for the Lady Lions was Andrea Carter with 10.
The Byers boys improved to 5-0, while the girls dropped to 0-5. The Potts Camp girls evened their season mark at 4-4, while the boys fell to 4-6.
