Cards down rival Hawks

Potts Camp basketball teams opened up the postThanksgiving portion of their schedule in a big way.

The Lady Cardinals and Cardinals took wins on the road Saturday night over a Marshall County rival, Holly Springs.

The Potts Camp girls, getting 27 points from Rakyiah Stricklen, tipped the night off with a 67-57 win over the Lady Hawks.

Stricklen was 12 of 18 from the free-throw stripe.

The Lady Cards went up 33-24 at halftime and maintained the winning pace in the second half. Stricklen scored 10 in the third.

Also hitting in double digits for the visitors was Malasha Faulkner with 16.

Holly High’s Chamilya Watson was the high scorer on the night. She blistered the nets for 31 points. She scored 14 in the third when Holly High trimmed its deficit to 52-49.

The Lady Cards then outscored the Lady Hawks 158 in the fourth and won by 10.

The Potts Camp boys completed the sweep in the nightcap, knocking off Holly Springs 71-56.

The Cardinals were up 1410 after one quarter, 34-25 at halftime and 50-39 at the end of the third.

Josh Blake was the top gun on the night. He scored 20 in the win, going six of seven from the charity stripe. Quentavis Martin added 12 for the Cardinals.

Jabari Johnson scored 16 for the Hawks.

P.C. Boys-TCPS tourney The Potts Camp Cardinals

won one of two at the Tupelo Christian Preparatory School Thanksgiving Shootout.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the Cards rallied in the second half for a 56-52 win over North Pontotoc.

They were down 27-23 at the break but outscored the Vikings 19-11 in the third to go up four, and they went on to win by that same margin.

Potts Camp featured a balanced scoring attack with nine players getting points. Zykeldrick Hamer led the way with 11.

The first night of the tourney, November 22, the Cards dropped a heartbreaker, 56-53 to Houlka.

Potts Camp went up 19-13 after the first quarter but could only produce five points in the second.

Houlka was on top 44-37 after three quarters, and a Cardinal rally came up short.

The leading point producer for the Cards was Blake with 15.

Potts Camp-Wheeler

Potts Camp squads lost a pair of games at Wheeler on Friday night, Nov. 19, starting with a the Lady Cards’ 57-33 setback in the opener.

They trailed 24-21 at halftime but got outscored 33-12 in the second half.

Hitting in double digits were Stricklen with 14 and Faulkner with 13.

The Potts Camp boys struggled out of the starting gate and fell 69-44 to the Eagles.

They were down 31-18 at the halfway point, and Wheeler pulled away in the second half to win by 25.

Ten Cardinals scored. Blake had 10.

The Lady Cardinals (3-4) and the Cardinals (4-5) hosted county rival H.W. Byers on Tuesday of this week. They visit Okolona Friday. Next Tuesday, Dec. 7, they host Myrtle to start district play.
