Cards down Falcons

The Potts Camp baseball team split versus a couple of foes during the first part of spring break.

The Cardinals, participating in the Bruce Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, March 9-10, knocked off Ingomar and then lost to the host school.

Jacob Hopkins was in control from the mound as Potts Camp clipped the Falcons 7-1 on the first day of the tourney.

He gave up only two hits and struck out six in five innings of work. He threw 73 pitches, with 25 of those coming in the top of the first.

Ingomar's only run came in the first, with the leadoff man reaching on a walk and scoring on a fielder's choice.

The Cards tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the first as leadoff man Jamie Muse reached on a walk and scored on an Ingomar error.

Potts Camp then secured the victory with one run in the second, four in the third and another in the fourth.

Jaquives Muse drove in the run in the second.

In the big third, Jamie Muse doubled to lead things off. Darius McNeal singled and drove in a run. Caleb Holmes was hit by a pitch and Ty Bolden got an RBI. Nick Nichols was hit by a pitch and Peyton Aldridge had two RBIs.

McNeal added another RBI in the fourth.

On the second day of the tournament, the Cardinals gave up three runs in the bottom of the first and went on to lose to Bruce 9-2.

The Trojans added two in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth.

Potts Camp could muster just one run in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Jamie Muse started on the mound for the Cardinals and took the loss. He was relieved in the third by Aldridge.

Devonta Pegues, McNeal, Aldridge and Grant Martin each had a single at the plate.

The remainder of the high school season has been put on hold as schools have been dismissed for the time being due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Cards completed play last week with a 6-3 record.
