Cards beat Lions, lose by two to Blue Devils in title contest

The third time around proved to be the charm for the Potts Camp Cardinals.

After losing to cross-county rival H.W. Byers twice in the regular season, the Cardinals beat the Lions 73-64 Thursday night in the semi-finals of the Region 2-1A Tournament at Falkner.

“We played more our style of basketball in this one,” said Jeremy Dillard, head coach of the Cardinals. “We slowed the game down and worked the basketball inside more. We let our height be our advantage.”

Potts Camp went up 9-4 early on back-to-back buckets by Mitchell Saulsberry. The lead was 10 points (18-8) at the end of the first quarter as Martavious Frost converted a three-point play.
