Cardinals roll to first victory of season

The Potts Camp football team took out its frustration on Thrasher Thursday night on the road.

After two disappointing losses to start the season, the Cardinals stormed to a 49-12 win over the Rebels. Jeffrey Curry was the leader of the offensive explosion. He ran the ball 15 times for 256 yards and a school-record five touchdowns.

During a celebration afterwards, coach Chris Daniels said he told his team, “You can’t get that second win until you get the first one.”

Potts Camp racked up 538 yards of total offense, 478 rushing and 60 passing. Malachi Brownlee carried eight times for 124 yards and Tylan Love six times for 98 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Gilmer was three of four passing for 60 yards and one touchdown. Braxton Totten had two receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown. Derrion Johnson had one catch for five yards.

The Cardinals led 35-6 at halftime.

“We still have a lot of things to clean up,” Daniels said. “We are getting too many dead ball penalties. Our players know we still have a lot of work to do.”

Potts Camp (1-2) travels across county on I-22 west to Byhalia this Friday night. It will be the first-ever football game between the two Marshall County schools. The Indians are also 1-2 after a win over Ashland last week.
