Cardinals knock off Rosa Fort

• Fall to Baldwyn in playoffs

Hits were hard to come by when Potts Camp hosted Baldwyn in round one of the Class 2A baseball playoffs Friday.

Each team had just two each in game one of the series, but the Bearcats were able to manufacture some runs and left Marshall County with a 5-0 win.

The Bearcats scored two runs in the top of the second off no hits. The leadoff man in the inning walked and the second batter reached on an error. Both later scored.

Baldwyn got one of its hits in the third inning and scored one run.

The visitors added two more in the fifth, with the key hit being a double. Three Bearcats earned walks in the inning.

For the Cardinals, Marterrian Donnell had a single in the third and Kalif Alford contributed a single in the bottom of the fourth.

Trell Kimmons, who threw 94 pitches, took the mound loss. He was relieved in the fifth by Dylan Minor, who threw 16 pitches.

The game was called after sixth innings due to inclement weather.

Game two was postponed Saturday and rescheduled for Monday of this week at Baldwyn (see below).

Potts Camp-Rosa Fort

The Cardinals concluded the regular season on Tuesday of last week at home with an 11-5 victory over Rosa Fort.

Potts Camp took a 2-0 lead in its half of the first inning, thanks to two runs-batted-in from Alford.

In the third, Alford doubled and scored Ben Shaw, who had reached on an error. It was 3-0.

The Cards added four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to seal the deal.

Donnell tripled in the fourth and Shaw singled for an RBI. Dominic Martin also picked up an RBI.

Zach Humphreys, Jase Aldridge, Donnell and Shaw all crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth.

Kimmons was the winning pitcher. He and Shaw, who entered in relief in the fifth, combined for a no-hitter. Kimmons struck out nine and Shaw fanned three.

The Lions reached base 10 times via the walk and were able to plate five runs.
