Cardinals, Hawks go out in first round

Both Potts Camp and Holly Springs saw their football seasons come to an end in the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association state playoffs.

The Cardinals visited Tupelo Christian Preparatory School Thursday, Nov. 6, and fell 58-8 to the Eagles in Class 1A. Potts Camp trailed 29-0 at the end of the first quarter and 50-0 at the half.

Scoring the Cardinals’ points in the fourth quarter were Jeffrey Curry with a touchdown run, followed by Tylan Love’s two-point conversion.

The Hawks also hit the road November 6 and lost 49-8 to Kossuth in Class 3A. They were down 15-0 after one quarter and 39-0 at halftime.

Holly Springs got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on Christian Hicks’ 60-yard touchdown run. Martavion Davis threw to Braylon Alexander for the two-point conversion.

The Cardinals end the season with a 3-6 record, while the Hawks finish 0-11.

TCPS (7-4) advances to face Calhoun City in round two of the Class 1A state playoffs, while Kossuth (8-2) will go against Choctaw County in round two of 3A competition.
