Cardinals fall in opener

It was certainly the tale of two halves Friday night at Potts Camp.

Only 21 points were scored by the two teams in the first half, compared to 48 in the second. Unfortunately, Lee Academy (Ark.) lit up the scoreboard with 36 of those in the final 24 minutes and left Marshall County with a 44-25 win.

“We had some injuries in the first half that plagued us big-time,” coach Markeith Washington said. “We had to go deep into our roster, and I’m proud of the way those guys stepped up. Our guys fought through it, and I’m proud of them.

“Lee is a tough team – a program on the rise. This game gives us an idea of where we are and the adjustments we need to make. Our jamboree (the week before) was rained out, so we found out a lot of things in this first game.”
