Cardinals end season 14-8
Potts Camp held on in the seventh inning last week to knock off Falkner in its last regular season baseball game.
The Cardinals were then eliminated from the Class 1A state playoffs with losses to Wheeler Friday at home and Saturday on the road.
Versus Falkner, Potts Camp built an 8-2 lead in the top of the fourth and then gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh before escaping with the 8-7 victory.
J.T. Wilson had a big game at the plate with two hits and three runs-batted-in. Derrion Johnson also had a pair of hits.
Coach Billy Gray used three pitchers – Christian Dobbs, Jose Ramirez and Wilson.
Potts Camp dropped game one of the post-season 5-3 to Wheeler. The Cards had six hits and committed three errors. Wilson had two of the hits and drove in a run. Johnson stole two bases.
The Cards then fell 7-0 in game two to the Eagles. Getting two hits each in the loss were Johnson and Wilson. The Cards committed four errors.
A young Potts Camp squad, with 10 freshmen, finished the season with a 14-8 overall record. They were second place in Region 2-1A with a 5-3 mark.
Two other baseball teams in the Marshall County School District, H.W. Byers and Byhalia, were also eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs last weekend – the Lions in Class 1A by Pine Grove and the Indians in 4A by Kosciusko.
