Cardinal Bennett Named to All-State Volleyball Team

Carson Bennett, of Potts Camp High School, has been named to the Class 2-A All-State team. Bennett is the first player from Potts Camp to be named to the Mississippi Coaches All-State Team in the school's history. All-state teams are voted on by coaches around the state who are members of the Mississippi Association of Coaches. Bennett can claim that her reaching her goals during her 2022 season helped in being named to the All-State team. She broke her goals with 162 kills, 99 digs and 15 blocks. She also had 42 aces, two assists, and 208 points during the season and was named to first team All-Division.

“Receiving this honor is awesome and makes me feel good about my accomplishments,” said Bennett “But I couldn't have done it without playing through God, himself and my teammates.” Julianna Garner, Potts Camp volleyball coach, said Bennett set goals at the beginning of the year and kept referring to them throughout the season.

“She was able to exceed her goals, and that had a lot to do with her career highs,” Garner said.

“As a player and person, I am very competitive on and off the court,” Bennett said. “So to reach your goals, eliminate the excuses, and give it the best you can.”

Garner said Bennett will be returning as a junior next year for the Cardinals.

“We still have our core group which will hopefully allow us to be successful next season as well,” Garner said.”My biggest mentor is my volleyball coach, Coach J. If it wasn't for her, we would not have made it as far as we did in the Potts Camp volleyball program,” Bennett said. “She always pushes me to be the best that I can and even takes the extra step for me. She told us a saying “ next play” so I wrote it on my shoe to always remember when I mess up, try again and fix it until I get it right.”
