Byhalia sweeps Ashland

Byhalia basketball teams picked up wins Friday night, Nov. 19, when they visited neighboring Benton County.

Points were hard to come by in the first game of the evening as the Lady Indians downed Ashland 26-17.

Byhalia was down 12-10 at halftime but outscored the Lady Blue Devils 16-5 in the second half to win by nine.

Jasmine Malone scored 18 of the Lady Indians’ 26.

The leading scorer for Ashland was Aaliya Harper with six.

In the nightcap, three Indians scored in double digits as the visiting team earned a 6054 win over Ashland.

The top guns for Byhalia were Derrick Beard and Kanaan DeBerry with 16 each and RoMontrez Tuggles with 13.

The game was tight in the first 16 minutes with the Indians leading 28-27 at the halfway mark.

The Indians scored 17 in the third to the Devils’ 11 and took a seven-point lead to the final period before winning by six.

Brendan Gorman poured in 16 for Ashland, while Aaron Greer had 12, and Quintavious Cotton contributed 11.

Byhalia tourney

The Lady Indians and Indians lost their games to DeSoto County opponents Monday, Nov. 22, in the Byhalia Thanksgiving Shootout. The Byhalia girls were on the short end of a 61-47 score versus Lake Cormorant. The were down 18-4 after one quarter, 34-19 at the half and 49-30 at the conclusion of the third. Malone scored 36 of the Lady Indians’ 47.

The Byhalia boys dropped a 79-64 decision to Lewisburg in the final game of the oneday shootout.

The Indians trailed by one, 17-16, at the end of the first quarter. The deficit grew to nine at halftime, and they went on to fall by 15.

Scoring in double figures for the Indians were Beard with 22, Jamarion Austin with 14 and DeBerry with 12.

The Lady Indians (3-5) and the Indians (3-4) visited Southaven on Tuesday of this week. They go to Baldwyn Friday night. Next Tuesday, Dec. 7, they host Southwind (Tenn.).
