Byhalia defeats Ashland; Lions, Hawks lose
The Byhalia Indians, facing a tall rebuilding task in 2025, picked up their first win Friday night.
“The kids are seeing the results of the hard work they have been putting in,” said new head coach Reginald Davis, whose team defeated Ashland 32-13. “They are taking pride in preparation for their opponents.”
Leading the way for Byhalia were C.J. Wilson with three touchdowns and 80 rushing yards, Aaron Jeffries with an 88-yard kickoff return for six points and Damarlyn Anderson with three sacks.
“We’re playing selfless football and playing for each other,” Davis said. “We’re learning how to win and fight through adversity.”
The Indians (1-2) will host a cross-county foe, Potts Camp, this Friday night. It will be the first-ever football matchup between the two schools. The Cardinals are also 1-2, coming off their first win of the season over Thrasher.
In other games involving local schools this past Friday night, H.W. Byers lost its first game of the season, 33-0 to North Panola, and Holly Springs fell 34-20 at Walnut.
