Byers teams conference champs

H.W. Byers made a sweep at the Middle School Basketball Conference Tourna­ment this year that was held at Ashland High School.

All three teams brought the title of conference champs back to the Lions’ den. The pee wee and junior high Lions defeated the Hawks of Holly Springs in the finals, and the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Devils of Ashland in the girls finals.

It was a battle to the end for the pee wee boys with Houston Harris shooting a three-pointer to tie the game within the last 30 seconds. Jadyn Jefferson was fouled with under 10 seconds left in the game, and he made good on both free throws, putting Byers up by two points for a 25-23 victory.
