Byers Lions lose district opener

An injury-plagued H.W. Byers football team had a tough road trip to Okolona last Friday night.

The Lions lost to the Chieftains 44-6. It was the first Region 2-1A game of the season for both schools.

“Okolona is a good football team, but our injuries are simply catching up with us,” coach Chris Daniels said. “It’s tough to play a game with 16 players – seven out with injuries.

“The numbers game is catching up with us. The other team can substitute and we can’t. We played hard but by halftime, we were just out of gas.”
