Brown Brings Home GCAC Newcomer of the Week

The Rust College men’s basketball program finally got on the board regarding the conference’s weekly awards. Khalil Brown scored the first for the guys during the 2023- 24 campaign by snagging himself the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week.

Brown, a power forward from Atlanta, Georgia, dropped an average of 21 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal over two contests, shooting 53.5 percent (15-for-28).

The six-foot-six senior set a new season-high for rebounds with seven while tallying his

second-highest scoring night of the year at Wiley as he poured in 25.

A Southern Crescent Tech College and Edward Waters College transfer, he is the team’s highest scorer at 14.4 points per game while hitting a Bearcat-best 50.8 percent of his field goal attempts. Brown and the boys return to the hardwood for their first matchup inside the friendly confines of W.A. McMillan Center in about two months when they welcome the Buccaneers from the Virgin Islands on Thursday evening.
