20 wins lands Byers in quarter finals

H.W. Byers Lions have been on a mission all season, and that’s to get where they are now, on their way to winning the 1A championship.

The Lions, under coach Fred Stafford, hosted the first two games of the 1A north state playoffs, and in both games, the Lions won by an average of 46 points. Byers defeated Thrasher High School in the first round by a final of 74-28. And in the second round, the Lions defeated Ingomar High School 77-36.

Byers takes a 20-game win streak into the quarterfinals of the 1A state playoffs.

Biggersville High School will be waiting for the Lions for a rematch of last year’s title game.

The game will be held at Itawamba Community College, in Fulton, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22. Admission is $10.
