City Personals

Congratulations to Bailie and Tucker Fant on the birth of their beautiful daughter, Catherine Carter Fant. Carter made her way into this world Aug. 4, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 3/4” long. She was welcomed by her closest family members and sweetest little cousins.

Happiest of birthdays to Linda Kay Belk, who celebrated a day early (Sunday) with her family and most importantly, her children.

If you are looking for a great time Friday night, pop on down to Heath Barnett Field at Marshall Academy for Meet the Patriots! It will kick off at 6:30, so plenty of time to get down there after work! It will be an evening packed with seeing all of the fall athletes from Peewee through Varsity football players, Peewee through Varsity cheerleaders and the softball players, too. There will be vendors with Patriot gear along the Walk of Patriots, as well as the most mouthwatering barbecue with all the fixins to purchase! It does not get much more American than that!

Posts have popped up most of the summer showcasing the Patriots varsity football team, as they are under “new management” this season. Jake Hill has brought his football (and basketball) prowess to Marshall Academy to lead the Patriots as head football coach! Some of you may know, others may not, but Coach Jake Hill is the son of Coach Johnny Hill, who used to roam the halls of Marshall Academy back in my day as a student. OG coach Hill made the Magnum PI mustache iconic at Marshall Academy long before it hit big in Hollywood!

It has been a breath of fresh air to see both of the Coach Hills on campus, as well as another OG from the football field, Keith Owens. I remember the days when Keith was down there day in and out it seemed, working to make sure the boys not only learned about football but how to be good humans off the field, too. Wesley Harris is returning with his energy that is absolutely off the charts and his phenomenal football knowledge. I have no doubt that under the tutelage of this fine group of coaches, a solid group of young men will leave nothing on the field!

This season is going to shape up to be an exciting ride, so be sure to check out their schedule and head down to the field for some football action on Friday nights!
