Kristi Allen, Kimberly Bolin, Kathy Elgin, Dianene Fant, Leigh Morris and Michele Stuber spent some quality time at Moss Mountain Farm last weekend, which is nestled right outside of Little Rock, Ark., on the Arkansas River. It is a vast 500-acre estate upon which the cottage sits where the ladies stayed. It is also the home place of P. Allen Smith, design and gardening expert. Kathy Elgin planned the trip for the group from start to finish. They had a chef-prepared supper in the Summer Kitchen and catered meals in the cottage. It is a must visit for all design and gardening enthusiasts.
Big happy birthday wishes to Grady Brooks. He celebrated his actual birthday Friday night with supper at Bouré in Oxford with Alana Hilliard and Thomas Stewart. The trio continued their evening at Oxford’s newest hotspot, The Velvet Ditch. Saturday evening, Alana and Grady met up with Gene Brooks, Laura and Hank Wheeler, Caitlyn and Delilah Bray and me for a fabulous meal at JoJo’s Cajun Cuisine in New Albany.
Carri and Larry Hutchens, Alison Wood and children, Rhett and Nora, and Mary Catherine McPhail and daughter, Evie, attended the Savannah Bananas All-Star baseball game over the weekend. The All-Star team consisted of players from the Savannah Bananas, Party Animals, Texas Tailgaters and Fire Fighters. They took on the Auburn Tigers baseball team. Everyone had a fabulous time, as always, watching the shenanigans put on by the franchised all stars.
The Performing Arts Center in New Albany was transformed into an Elsa Wonderland Saturday for the 5th birthday party of Emma Allred. Party goers enjoyed tumbling around the center, hanging from bars and balancing on beams. The group had delicious party fare and cake, as well. A grand time was had by all who attended.
The Marshall Academy Patriots put it on Rossville Friday night, allowing no points on the board. It was senior night, as it was their last regular season home game. Senior cheerleaders and football players were recognized, along with their family members, before kickoff. After the game, they ran the 100 yards of the field one last time as Patriots. Well, for the regular season anyway. This week they travel to Greenville to face off with Washington School. Playoffs begin the first Friday in November. As of press time, the Patriots are slated to host the first round. Grab your blankets, beanies and coats and come on down to Heath Barnett field to cheer the Patriots on to victory.
A big thank you to all the senior cheerleaders and football players for their dedication and determination throughout the years (and also for our new transfer athletes). It has been a true joy to watch y’all cheer and play. Collectively, you have shown enthusiasm and leadership as well as representing the Patriot family well. Let’s keep the train moving all the way to the Ship. Laila Clifton, Luci Tomlinson, Gracie Rappa, Macy Odom, Ruby Layson, Jase Akins, Hunter Brewer, Conner Floyd, Ashston Franklin, Hunter Holbrook, K.J. Luse, Cannon Marshall, Savion McGhee, Southern Moore, Devin Snow, Jaden Walker, Avery Wilbanks and Tyler Wright, leaving a legacy as Patriots.
The caboose of the Shaw girls, Kate Russell, turned 8 whole years old. She celebrated with a big party Saturday afternoon. Everyone enjoyed celebrating “Tootie” at the cabin. Happiest of birthdays to one of the best.
Anita Barnett traveled to Starkville for the ballgame. She met up with Rosamond Barnett so they could attend the Mississippi State and Texas football game. State wound up with the short end of the stick, falling to Texas in the fourth quarter 38-45. However, there was still a party and, naturally, cowbells.
