Annual family beach trip

We deviated from our usual trip to the beach this year by going to Panama City instead of the Destin area. It was such a fun time that few pictures were taken. Momma, Daddy, Grady, Alana, Laura, Caitlyn, Trace, Delilah and I went down Saturday. I have to say, we were in stop and go traffic for nearly two hours outside of Birmingham. Worst ever

We stopped at Durbin’s – an outdoor peach and everything else you can imagine market. It was right this side of Montgomery. Chilton County peaches are so good. All of their other wares were just as scrumptious and there is a sandwich/ice cream shop attached. Their sandwiches were delicious and oh so affordable! If you are heading down South and go that direction, hit them up for sure! It is worth the stop and, best of all, they are right off the exit.

Our group went to Wonder Works in PCB one afternoon. All of them loved it, including Delilah. Lots of interactive exhibits for all ages.

The Liq was a hot spot across from our condominium. It was a bar with a liquor store incorporated. I never knew motorcycle radios could be so loud. Also another hot spot seemed to be Coyote Ugly. If you are familiar with the McCarty Pottery sales, imagine that only flanked by scantily clad folks from all walks of life standing to get in a bar the size of a blues shack. I mean wrapped around the building into another parking lot. It was crazy, but I guess if you are into that sort of scene, it would be a dream.

The best spots to eat were David’s New Orleans Style Cafe and Rodeo’s Steak Pit and Seafood. The poboys at David’s would easily rival Acme Oyster House, no joke. They also have hand shaved snocones and beignets. The service could not have been better, too. It is tiny, but oh so worth it!

Rodeo’s is a good little clip from the strip, but worth the drive. The steaks were perfectly grilled and the crab legs beat the price of any restaurant on the beach by far and large! Their staff was also top notch.

If you want to stay in and not fight the crowds for the dinner rush, Capt. Hais Fresh Seafood Market and Deli is the spot to get shrimp. They will steam it for you with the most scrumptious seasonings ever and butter. They will throw in corn, too, if you ask. It is thirty minutes out of the way and worth every second of that drive. It is a true hole in the wall, which is where we always love to go.

Happiest of birthdays to Susie Murphy. She flipped a number and looks amazing. Here’s to many, many more.
