Congratulations to Jake and Brittany Jones on the birth of their beautiful daughter, Harlow May. She made her grand arrival around cocktail hour June 6th. She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 20 inches long. Her amazing grandmother, Nancy Jones, was there to welcome her. Here’s to lots of sweet sugars and grand adventures. Welcome to the clan, sweet girl.
I went to the farmers market in town Saturday. If you have not been, it is worth getting up early and going. The vendors were all just as friendly as can be and the wares? Well, grape salad is all I have to say about that. The Chosen Basil hit the nail on the head. The sweetest soul has such an amazing variety of plants available. She knew everything about each of her plants and had propagated them with loving care. Hampton Oaks Farm had freshly cut, gorgeous flowers. They had pre-made bouquets, arrangements in containers or buy by the stem. The sunflowers were incredible looking. All different types of breads were offered by one vendor, that looked delicious.
I spoke with a farmer of vegetables for a long while. He had all sorts of scrumptious garden goodies available, as well as cherry tomato hanging baskets and a variety of jams and jellies.
It was a great morning to enjoy the square and the abundance of things folks from our own area had to offer. They will not be setting up this weekend, but look for them again Saturday, June 22.
As always, Carpenters at the V on Salem has juicy tomatoes and every other kind of vegetable you can imagine available Monday through Saturday. Miss Corrine wears a smile as she helps those of us who are not as veggie smart to pick out the best they have to offer. Every time I leave Carpenters, it’s like leaving a close friend’s home. They make you feel like family and never let you leave empty handed.
Also, Thursday afternoons, there is an open air farmers market in Mt. Pleasant. It is perfect for those who aren’t early to rise Saturday morning with the same type of fare offered as the farmers market on the square.
This is the time of year for our hard working farmers to shine. A farmer’s bounty shows that dedication and hard work pay off. Let us all be mindful and support them all when we can.
