Low voter turnout

What a whirlwind of a county election we had last week. Challengers came out of the woodwork vying for top spots in the county.

A huge congratulations to new comer Johnny Walker on his new supervisor seat on the Marshall County board. Not only did he run a clean campaign, he also had a large turnout for his district showing support. It is refreshing to see a fresh face, albeit the shoes left by Eddie Dixon are big ones to fill. I have no doubt Walker will do a fine job in conjunction with the other amazing supervisors we have in moving Marshall County forward.

Once again, Kenny Dickerson proved to be a formidable opponent to his challengers. His extensive background in law enforcement, his accessibility to his constituents, the unmatched support staff at the sheriff’s department and his unwavering loyalty to his county are just a few of the things that will always have him coming out leaps and bounds above any other.

Big congratulations also go out to Senator Neil Whaley. People remember deeds not words, promises kept not broken. In his tenure, Senator Whaley has always been above board and more than helpful to his constituents in every county. He goes to Jackson and fights for all of us tooth and nail. We are all very blessed to have him. He and his family are such a valuable asset to Marshall County.

It should not go without saying that once again, we had a low voter turnout. I am not sure what it would take to make people get out and perform their due diligence. Every day, scores of people are complaining on Facebook about our people in office. It is infuriating when you see the registered voter count and compare it to those who actually voted. There is absolutely no reason folks cannot get out and vote. Circuit Clerk Monet Autry has her office open even on Saturdays prior to elections to cast aN absentee. Pollers will come to the car on election day if those voting are unable to go inside the poll. No excuse. Hopefully when city elections come around the next time, those on the voter rolls will get to the polls.
