Giggles - that’s what summer is all about

I have wanted to write about the fun that I have witnessed on the square for a couple of weeks now and it has just slipped my mind when it came down to sending in the column. However, it is now in the forefront of my mind and I want to share it with all of you. Listening to the giggles of little children makes me smile from ear to ear. The past few weeks, giggles have echoed around the square. They start off faintly then the volume gets louder...opening the office door and looking, there was a line of small children being led by a couple of adults. The group was from Wright’s Martial Arts and were familiarizing themselves with the different places around the square. They toured the Holly Springs Fire Department one day and even walked back with lanyards around their necks, just pleased as all get out. They even got a tour of the Marshall County courthouse. They were the most well behaved little children I have seen in a while. Each and every one of them were just so excited about being out and learning about our town.

Giggles have also been coming from the space between the Bank of Holly Springs and the old Carquest business on the corner. In the green space, laughter from children and a few adults has resonated around the square. Looking over there one day, it appeared they were playing dodge ball and everybody seemed to be having a marvelous time.

That is what summer is all about and was about way back in the day growing up here. The innocence and pure joy emulated by them is simply contagious. How could you not smile after seeing these two separate groups having the times of their lives? To the adults who are in charge of these fun littles, kudos to you. Being a good citizen has to start somewhere and from what I have witnessed, these young folks are well on their way.

Two decades between uncle and nephew, Jacob Shaw and Graham Clayton, did not stop them from celebrating their birthdays (25 and 5 respectively) together. Graham has celebrated his birthday for a solid week with parties and gatherings galore, both in his hometown, at the cabin and in Holly Springs with his grands, Lisa and Greg Shaw. Both amazing young fellas were surrounded by family and friends alike wishing them well. AnnYager, Alex and Mary Rives McCrosky of Danville, Kentucky, were even here to celebrate Graham and Jacob. What wonderful lives are led when they are celebrated and reveled by scores of people. How fortunate I am to know and love them both. Here’s to many, many more amazing birthdays. Happy quadricentennial or Silver Jubilee to Jacob and happy half part of a decade to precious Graham.
