Holly Springs has newly formed animal rescue group, Abandoned to Adored

Paxton Clark spent Wednesday night with his Glam, Grace Bonds. While here, his little friend, John Marshall Holmes, joined him for a day packed with fun! John Marshall was at his Grammy’s, Linda Stewart.

It is not often that a regular person gets to see a “hero” in action, a peek into the sad side of animal rescue. We always see the happy side, the pictures and videos of the ones with their bellies full, eyes sparkling, tails wagging and tongues hanging out. We rarely get a glimpse into the “before.”

Coming in late Sunday afternoon, I noticed Anita and Amanda Barnett were parked behind my home, hatch up on the vehicle. Thinking something was wrong, I pulled in to check. Amanda was sitting in the back petting the most pitiful dog I have ever seen. Animal shows sometimes have videos showing older dogs who have been left at shelters just blankly staring at the walls of their kennels. That is what this poor soul was doing – his eyes fixated on the floor of the truck, showing no emotion as Amanda was softly petting him, talking to him and Anita offering him pork tenderloin. Nothing. Emptiness. He was covered in puncture wounds, his nose was bleeding, his ears obviously infected and the most alarming of all was the golf ball size of his front leg joint. This poor dog had seen horrible days but thankfully, he wound up in the yard of Robin Seale, who reached out to Anita for help.

“Walter” is the name this fella has been given. Dr. Dunaway is the vet who met Anita Sunday evening at the clinic. Walter has been attacked by other dogs and has pellets embedded under his skin so obviously the target of a pellet gun. As if that is not the worst thing ever, he had been shot through his front leg a couple of weeks ago, causing the bones to fuse. He will never have function of that leg again and faces possible amputation. Seeing this from the beginning just broke my heart, but I will be following Walter’s journey. I know there is a perfect home for him out there. Shame on anyone who could harm an animal but most especially in this fashion.

Anita has recently formed a rescue group, Abandoned to Adored. Through them, abandoned, abused, neglected dogs have been vetted and found their “furever” homes locally and up North. The organization is 501c3 approved, so any donations made to them are completely tax deductible. You can find their page on Facebook.
