City Personals
What a fabulous Fourth of July celebration the City of Holly Springs put on Saturday night! Not only was there an amazing blues show prior, but the fireworks extravaganza could be seen literally for miles. Family and friends gathered, packing the square. It was a wonderful night!
Sad news came around last week with the death of Voorhies “Vogie” Daniel Clayton. Growing up, Vogie was always fun to visit with, as she was from Memphis but would come out here often to see her Momma, Gargi, Aunt, Lucy Hill, sister, PoPo, and all of her childhood friends.
Vogie married Dr. PA Clayton (we called him Percy). He bought a piece of property in the county which had a lake. They built a beautiful weekend home where they would entertain. Nonnie always took me fishing at Vogie and Percy’s. He would not allow me to fish unless I could bait my own hook and take the catch off of it. Needless to say, I can run a hook up a cricket’s rear in no time and, with a rag of course, remove a flopping bream.
There are so many incredible memories of Vogie both at the lake, in her home in Memphis and at her Momma’s house in town.
She was a great human being with the patience of Job. At 101, it is safe to say she had a life well lived. She certainly will be missed, but memories of her will live.
