New amphitheater going up on the north side of the courthouse

Jane and Charlie Farris just spent a few days with Frannie and Michael Franks and their children, Farris and Jane, in Gulf Shores. On the way home, Jane and Charlie found the oldest concrete paved road in the south! It is in Saltillo, Mississippi, and it was poured in 1914!

Wynne and Paxton Clark were guests of Grace Bonds and son, Dunn, last week. They enjoyed spending time experiencing the outdoors with beautiful weather

If you have not had time to check out the new outdoor amphitheater off the square, it is worth a drive past. We all remember how much fun the Blues Nights were on the square prior to the virus, right? There were nights you could not move for all the folks meandering about and dancing. From what I saw, this little amphitheater will be perfect for all sorts of local shows.

It is the perfect spot, in my opinion. Folks can gather right around the edifice, in the area of the walking park or down the hill by where the old Boy Scout hut was located (behind the old police department). I envision the entire area full of people enjoying shows!

For those who do not necessarily travel to town much, it is located on the north side of the courthouse. Go down the alley, pass Caldwell’s record shop and you will see it.

The current administration has diligently worked to preserve and promote our local blues musicians, as well as the blues history here. They put in place a Blues Alley revitalization plan which included purchasing the property, erecting the amphitheater, adding much needed lighting in that area and changing the name from North Center Street to Blues Alley.

Memphis has Beale Street that pops with all sorts of local color, artists and visitors from around the globe. New Orleans has Bourbon Street, touting the same attributes as Beale. How amazing is it that our current administration has had the forethought to catapult Holly Springs in a direction that larger cities have profited from, as well as creating a sense of community and pride? What an exciting chapter
