I was so very saddened to read in last week ’s newspaper about the death of Versie Turnage. Many years ago during a political campaign, I wound up on Miss Versie’s doorstep. Not only did she welcome me into her home, she offered me a cool drink, as well. She was close to one of the finest ladies I have ever known. I do not know if she ever knew what an impact just that small visit with her had on my life, but it truly did. She will be sorely missed and my condolences go out to her family and friends.
Congratulations to Laney and Greg Gresham on becoming grandparents to their first grandchild, Oliver Boothe Bennett. He was born to Maddie and Aaron Bennett, also of Holly Springs, Monday, June 8, 2020. He is a beautiful, perfectly made little bundle of joy!
Happy 98th birthday to Epson Riddle, fondly known as “Snook.” His family and friends hosted a birthday celebration for him Saturday. If you grew up in Holly Springs or had any dealings at the Marshall County Court house, chances are you ran into “Mr. Snook,” as I called him. When I was in high school, I worked in purchasing under Billie Holbrook. There was not a day Mr. Snook did not have a smile on his face. He is as real as they come, always honest, kind and open. I hope he sees this and I hope he enjoyed his day and will have many more to come!
Congratulations to Olivia and Aaron Fons! The couple were wed Saturday night in a picturesque ceremony at Walter Place. Here is to many wonderful years of married bliss!
