Friday night, The Apothecary was lit up from one end to the other, elegantly decorated and filled with folks from young to old and everyone in between. Generations of people came from all over to honor a beautiful Martha Carlisle for her 90th birthday. Sandy and Jim White even made the trip from Houston, Texas, for just that night.
Toasts were made, incredible food consumed and pink squirrels and a gorgeous birthday cake were the hits of the evening.
Martha’s children hosted the affair – Patti and Fred Carlisle, Marty and Sam Mc-Clatchy, Dennis Carlisle Jr. and Mary Louise Davis. Many of the grands and great-grands were there to celebrate with Martha.
Martha had a beautiful speech talking about her days here in Holly Springs. She said it did not matter how long you had not spoken to someone, if you need them, they are there. She even quoted Bert Bonds, another town treasure, in saying, “don’t you feel sorry for people who do not live in Holly Springs?” No truer words were ever spoken than in that moment. Eyes gleaming, a smile that could like up a room and Miss Martha always so gentile.
It was a fun party filled with lots of laughs and catching up with friends. How outstanding to see Miss Martha as happy as she was, surrounded by people who love and treasure her. Here’s to many more incredible birthdays!
