Carole Kloha Elliott speaks at Marshall

Saturday, May 4, Hedge Farm in Victoria was the setting for a beautiful wedding. Elizabeth Skelton and Vince Hoyt exchanged vows underneath a tree that was flanked with a handmade cross covered in fresh flowers. Clay Pritchett officiated the service, which included a joining of the ropes.

Attendees did not let the rain stop them from celebrating Elizabeth and Vince. The reception followed underneath the pavilion just beyond the site of the ceremony. A DJ played music on into the night that had everyone on the dance floor and, at one point, the bride on a table!

The happy couple took a short mini-honeymoon to St. Louis, where they took in the sights and enjoyed a Cardinals baseball game.

The Frank Swords Gymnasium at Marshall Academy was packed to overflowing Monday night with the graduation of the Class of 2019. Mary Neely Jones, senior class president, welcomed guests with an invocation. Kelli Rhea, salutatorian, delivered a speech reaching back to when the class started their journey in lower elementary. Erin Lomenick, valedictorian, had a speech filled with funny moments throughout the years the class had shared together. The Class of 1990 was represented by Carole Kloha Elliott, guest speaker. Carole is an award-winning elementary teacher. She had asked her first grade class what advice they would give a graduating class of seniors. She brought their answers on paper to the podium and expanded on their wise words. She spoke not only of being kind always, but about choosing your friends wisely.

Congratulations to the Class of 2019. They will be sorely missed by those they left behind in school, but have great paths ahead to blaze!

Jerry Beck attended the commencement ceremony at the University of Mississippi Saturday. His granddaughter, Kimball Beck, received her Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics and nutrition with an emphasis in health sciences and a minor in biology. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Delta Gamma sorority. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. Kimball is the daughter of Diane and Jerry Beck Jr. of Glen. She will be returning to Oxford in the fall to attend the fast track nursing program.
