For the past 35 years, in communities around the world, Relay For Life has been one of the largest fundraising events. It is a time when communities come together to fight against cancer.

“Cancer has affected too many people I love,” said Fergenia Hood. “That’s why I’ve joined Relay For Life to celebrate survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and offer up support to anyone in our community that has been affected by it.”

She said the funds raised would sustain critical research and provide services for people trying to cope with their cancer experience.

“Believe me, every dollar really does count,” Hood said. “Please donate today.”

If you would like to have a team, join a team or make a donation contact Linda Wilson, event chairperson, 601-731-4934 or Fergenia Hood 662-252-0794 or fergeniahood@outlook.com or visit the American Cancer Society website http://donate.cancer.org.

This time of year, everyone needs a break but not as much as the parents, teachers, and students. Spring break is this week for Marshall County School District, Holly Springs School District, and Marshall Academy.

I remember when I was still in elementary my brothers and sisters would wake up, grab a quick breakfast, get on bikes, and head to the empty lot to play baseball or kickball. Back then, it was one of the best week of the year besides Christmas and of course when school was out for summer.

Whatever families decide to do, I hope everyone is safe, creates many memories, and enjoys their time off.
