Olivia gives Santa her list

I am sending prayers that you found something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Week. We are truly blessed. Most of our family was able to gather for a traditional meal and precious time to spend together laughing and loving. College kids are back at school and family from out of town have returned to their current homes. My grandson’s beloved cat accidently got into some human meds and is currently very ill, but is being monitored and we are praying for a full recovery.

Two of my grandchildren were able to stay with me from Sunday night until Saturday morning even though a crew was here ripping out half of the floors in the house and replacing them with new plywood that will not collapse when you step on it. The flooring will be put down as soon as I can get it. That has been quite the adventure that could fill this entire column, but that’s a story for another time. Eventually, that will be completed, and walls will be repainted. I continue to try to declutter through this process.

Ellen and family had planned to return to Georgia on Friday, but stayed through Saturday morning to attend Woods Farm Supply Open House and see the only Santa Olivia will consider giving her list to. We are grateful for the patience he has had with her over the years, always remembering her name and the struggles she has talking to people she does not know. If you did not make it to the open house, find time in your schedule to stop by to shop.

I was blessed to attend the beautiful wedding of my grandson, Jared, and his bride, Lauren, on Saturday night. Both were glowing with love and excitement to start this new life together. May God bless their union always.

I have had several “stray” cats live on my porch off and on (don’t worry they are fed and have shelter). The male tends to roam and comes back tattered after a few days, hopefully, if he returns this time a much-needed trip to the vet can be arranged. The female once belonged to a neighbor, before they moved, and has been spayed. While she indeed is not a friendly cat (I have only been able to touch her a few times) she rarely left the immediate area and never asked to be than a week ago, I searched the sheds and garage that had been opened, but found no cats. I was concerned that the local coyotes had gotten them. Friday night the female appeared loudly demanding food, eating with much gusto. Sunday afternoon she came up to me to be petted, something she had never done. I obliged her gently and she rolled over for a brief belly rub. Apparently, she encountered some trauma on her journey and decided maybe life here wasn’t so bad after all.

Christmas seems to be in the air with decorations going up and shopping in full swing. Be sure and see the freshly painted windows at Byhalia Nutrition Shack as Ellen spent many hours creating that while she was home! Her talent seems to be endless.
