Smoke Signals and other news
Another busy week was complimented by beautiful fall weather. I was able to attend and help a little with the 26th Annual Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. I had not been able to attend in several years due to my husband’s health. No, I don’t play golf, though if there were time in my schedule, I might look into it. The event was well organized and well attended. All seemed to have a great time. I had to leave before all the golfers made it back to the club house as I have to be at the ball field most every night for a few more weeks.
I attended the “BEAM” Kickoff event on Wednesday which included a great introduction to the new program that is a part of the CREATE Foundation. Funding for many new projects for nonprofit organizations will come from this program. It was also well attended and very informative. Many positive things are happening in our community.
“Come to the Cross” Pray for America will be held Sunday, November 3 at 3:33 p.m. At several Cross Stations in Lafayette and Marshall County: Abbeville Baptist Church, Anchor Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Oxford, Holly Springs First Baptist Church, New Prospect Baptist Church, Baptist Student-Ole Miss and Slayden Baptist Church. You can also join others in prayer right from your home, if you are unable to attend one of the locations.
There are numerous festivals and fall activities around. You can surely find one that has something you are interested in. Most have a variety of food, items for sale, music and other entertainment. Those who are putting these events together work hard to ensure your enjoyment and most are fundraisers for some organization. Support these organizations with your attendance and your money.
If you have “ring” cameras you will understand when I say the cameras are great and I depend on them a great deal. However, at times they can get a bit confused. If one of the cats that have taken up residence on my porch happens to jump up on the handrail, then the camera can decide, “There is a person on your front porch,” or a person on the TV can be “There is a person in your living room.” Last week it decided that the long shadow of a cat cast by the sun as it was going down was “a person on your porch.” I was in a meeting, but I checked when that notice popped up, since I was not expecting anyone. I almost laughed out loud in the meeting, but it really looked like a person walking on the porch. Keep those cameras rolling.
