Baseball, T-ball and softball games begin April 22

Baseball, T-ball, and softball games start for the county on April 22, with the preseason jamboree (location coming this week). Each team will play two games to get a chance to have fun and see what areas need work for each team. This year, Byhalia and Potts Camp are the only communities participating. I cannot tell you why Holly Springs chose not to have a program this year, as that information has not been shared with me. That is a question for the Holly Springs mayor and board of alderman.

The beauty of the trees budding, the green of the grass pushing up from the earth, the music of the birds singing, the buzzing of the insects that have been hidden away all winter, and the warm and cool temperatures all tell us God has once again given us a glorious Spring. Although there is something to love about every season, Spring is my favorite. Outdoor activities are offered throughout the area for all ages.

The Byhalia Garden Club will hold its annual Plant Auction fundraiser on Sat., April 27, at 10 a.m. At the Byhalia Methodist Church parking lot at 2155 Church Street. Cash or checks only. Attendees will enjoy a lively and friendly bidding process for a variety of home-grown plants and items. Don’t miss out on all the fun.

Early in March, I had a great-granddaughter born. She, her parents and her Grandma came to visit me this week. She, of course, is absolutely perfect. It is amazing to see them as her parents and to see the maturity level that comes with parenthood. I know it doesn’t happen for all new parents, but it is a blessing when it does.

Ellen and her family left on Thursday. The house is too quiet, but they had to return to Georgia for school and work. So far, I have only found one sock and one earring left behind. Oliva left her iPad at her aunt’s, so I see a mailing coming soon.

My recovery continues, although it is slower than I would like. It has definitely been a journey I would not want to repeat. There is still pain, but I only resort to pain medication before the physical therapy sessions. Ice packs are a constant companion. Still resigned to the use of a walker, I can get around fairly well. My physical therapist said I could drive when I could get myself to the car and if I felt safe using the gas and brake. I ventured out on Friday evening. Of course, it was at the Byhalia Ball Park, where some teams had practice. It is only a couple of miles from the house. The hardest part was getting this knee to bend correctly to get in and out of the car. I won’t make any road trips soon, but it offers some independence.

With physical therapy three times a week, I hope to be out and about soon. I was taken out to lunch this week by some long-time friends who came from Walnut for a visit. It was nice to be out, and I surprised a few folks who were at the restaurant.

Mike Hamblin’s wife, Deborah, now gives me frequent updates. On day 49 of this journey, Mike was able to talk a bit with his daughter and Susan, getting to hear the words, “I love you.” The family continues to ask for your prayers as they watch a miracle take place.
