Smoke Signals and other news
Hopefully, your Memorial Day weekend was not a complete washout. While you celebrated, did you remember the meaning of Memorial Day-to honor and remember military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces? These men and women died protecting our freedom. My uncle was one who died on the beaches of Normandy. I never knew him, but I thank him and countless others for giving his life so that we have freedom today.
Monday, I was able to pick up my cat from the vet. Her “Senior Panel” bloodwork came back perfect. There was not an official diagnosis, but possibly a stroke. She still holds her head crooked and may always do so. She meowed all the way home. When I let her out of the kennel, she greeted the dog, ran to check her litter box, demanded a bowl of milk and was off to the bed for a nap. She insists on receiving extra petting. She seems thinner and is not eating as much as usual. I made a few changes around the house to make things easier for her.
Finally, I am up to three hummingbirds! Last year I had many and my brother only had two or three. This year it seems to have reversed. One seems to return each year and has declared himself to be the one in charge. He sits about four feet from the feeder watching and if another bird tries to feed, he runs them off.
Thursday was the longawaited allergist appointment. I survived 17 days without antihistamine only by being very careful about what I ate. About 80 needle pricks only revealed a few minor culprits. I am now wearing a piece of tape that is used as part of the next test they want to run. If I am not allergic to the tape, they will proceed with that test. The only good part is I can take antihistamine again if needed.
The Georgia grandkids have finished up school for this year. Landon moves on to the 10th grade, loves football, and wrestling. He has his learner’s permit but isn’t too eager to drive much. Olivia, who I retired to keep at her birth, moves on to the seventh grade, is passionate about softball, and is taking on tennis. If you know her, you know how shy she is. When sixth grade class awards were finished (she received a Math Award), it was time for awards for the entire sixth grade. She was called up first to receive the Award for Responsibility. Although surprised and embarrassed to have to go on stage alone in front of the entire sixth grade, she managed.
