Smoke Signals and other news
League games for Marshall County Sports baseball, softball, and T-ball will end May 29 with the end-of-season tournament starting May 30 in Holly Springs. This season has gone quickly with minimal problems. Most of the issues have been with parents! Before you show your ugly side, think what the kids are witnessing. Kids have left the fields in tears because of their parents’ behavior. Come out and support these kids as they finish up the season.
I was finally able to take my 14year-old cat to the vet on Friday. She was not happy with being put in a kennel and taken away from the only home she has known since he was eight months old. We took her in when someone threw her out in 2012. She was spayed immediately and has not been outside since she came home, except when she accidentally slipped out the door and onto the porch for a short time.
She is still at the vet as of Monday morning for bloodwork and observation. Hopefully, it will be something that can be taken care of simply. I cannot allow her to suffer so if that is the situation, I will make the only decision possible. There will be many tears if this is the case. There have been so many pets over the years with so many sweet and sad memories. She will be my last cat since I know I won’t be around long term to care for another one.
Most of you know my health has been less than optimal for many months with no answers. Weeks of heart tests and blood work have led to no diagnosis. On Tuesday, I was given a simple antibiotic for a dental issue. The dental issue has improved but the surprising part is the other symptoms I have had are disappearing! Several days of almost normal health have been wonderful. I still have to rest more than usual, but any improvement is certainly appreciated.
This week I finally got to go to the allergist. I certainly am not excited to endure the many tests this will bring but this is a long-awaited appointment as more foods are beginning to cause reactions. The tough part has been not being able to take any antihistamines leading up to the test. I have been extremely careful with what I have eaten as I do not wish to endure the consequences of eating something I am allergic to and not be able to counteract it.
My grandson built a small birdhouse for me a few years ago. I have placed it in various locations hoping for tenants with no luck. Now I have a pair of beautiful Warblers preparing their nest in it.
Their cheerful singing is welcome and watching them work so hard is a pleasure.
On Tuesday, God blessed me with another beautiful a healthy great granddaughter. Mom had a bit of a tough delivery and issues afterward, but mom, dad, and baby are now home and getting settled into the joys of newborn life!
