Smoke Signals and other news
Thankful for the rain although getting all we had missed to date all at one time was a bit rough. The only damage I seemed to have other than little sleep is the large rut that washed out in my driveway. That can certainly be repaired. You would think the clouds rained themselves out, but the storm went on to drop about of an inch of rain on some of the drought-stricken areas of southern Georgia. While it did not extinguish the wildfires that have destroyed thousands of acres and burned at least 100 homes, it did help to somewhat help to contain it. Continued prayers for those affected by these fires.
I still only have two hummingbirds, and I have heard others say they only had a few. One of mine let me know it was time to change the nectar even if he hadn’t been able to drink all of it. I guess it had soured. As soon as I changed it, he was right back to drinking. Maybe he will invite some friends over.
I had been hearing a steady dripping of water in the bathroom but could not find a leak under the sink. That was because it was inside the wall coming from the shower. We chose to rip out the cabinet, sink, and medicine cabinet rather than the shower. Leak found. Water freely spraying. Although repairs have not been completed and may require ripping out the shower after all, at least the lines have been capped off and things are drying out.
If you have been following Bryson’s story, you know he was blessed to be donated a nice used handicap van on Jan. 1, providing transportation to school, doctors, and church. His next challenge was a need for an easier way to complete personnel hygiene as he could no longer stand. A group of local plumbers got together and installed a walk-in tub. He now asked to take a bath several times a day. The latest challenge is the ramp used to get him in and out of the house has deteriorated and must be replaced. We have an excellent carpenter in place. If you wish to donate toward this expense, there is an account at the Bank of Holly Springs in his name. Any amount would be appreciated. There is also a GoFundMe account set up. Contact me for details.
I don’t remember cutting my grass myself much last year, but decided to tackle it on Saturday. It takes about three hours of steady cutting. I enjoy it mostly, but am truly exhausted when I’d done, especially after my recent health issues. I do not have a manicured lawn, but country grass where a pasture once was. Mole runs have created havoc and washed out places. My yard guys have been busy cleaning up overgrown areas and done a good job but some of those cleanups have left other rough areas. To prove that it’s rough, when I got ready to turn the mower off, the key had bounced out of the ignition nowhere to be found. It turned off when I got off but the headlights stay on until the ignition is turned off. Fortunately, another key was located.
