Smoke Signals and other news

Spring sports kickoff in the county

My neighbor said she had seen two hummingbirds so best clean the feeders and make the food. Remember, it is best to use water that has been boiled and cooled. The ratio is one part sugar to four parts water. You do not need to add anything else. They are amazing creatures to be able to find their way back to the same feeding grounds each year. Many other species have returned for the summer and are busy building nests to raise their young.

The Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce held their quarterly luncheon on Thursday. As always, the food was delicious and the speaker shared good information concerning the uses of AI for good.

Most of my days this week have been spent at doctor’s offices for visits or tests with still no real answers for whatever is going on with me. Some days I felt like driving myself and some days I had to get someone else to drive me. It is an effort to get up and function each day. I am currently wearing a 30-day heart monitor. The new versions have greatly improved with no wires and no logbooks to keep up with. Answers would be nice!

Marshall County Sports held their coaches’ meeting on Thursday night. Potts Camp, Holly Springs, and Hickory Flat have teams participating this year. We will miss the Byhalia teams. There are some traditional faces in the coaching staff but also several new ones. The kids will kick off the season April 13 with the opening jamboree at Potts Camp. Come out and support the teams.

The dog I have been trying to catch has not been back in a couple of weeks. He seems to have his own schedule. His owners have been identified and have been looking for him for a year. It seems the family had moved and he wandered off from the new location and probably could not find his way back. I would love to reunite him with his family.

Easter is upon us. My youngest daughter and her family are in town. I know I won’t be able to cook for Easter as I usually do, but hopefully I can supervise Olivia to prepare some of the dishes. It will seem odd if none of the grandchildren want to have an Easter Egg Hunt. It is the first time I can remember that we won’t have little ones at Easter.

Congratulations to all the winners of the Beauty Reviews at the schools in the county. It seems they all chose last Saturday to host their event. I knew each of the winners through their participation in softball over the years. These girls aren’t just beautiful but well rounded as well. Some people don’t understand the part beauty reviews can play in a girl’s life. No, not everyone can win, but the experience of being on stage and participating in interviews if they are included can go a long way in development of skills to be used down the road. My youngest daughter participated in not only school pageants but state pageants as well. The interview skills she learned helped her in job interviews, landing most jobs she applied for.
