Smoke Signals and other news
I got the first round of grass cutting for the summer out of the way this week. This grass just insists on growing way too early.
Recently, I accepted the opportunity to be a poll manager for the federal election. I know how the election process works, but never really thought about all that goes into the preparation for the day. There are many safeguards in place to ensure a fair election and the ladies I worked with were dedicated to making sure all rules were followed. It was a long day, but I learned a lot. I was disappointed in the number of people who came out to exercise their right to vote. True, there was not a lot of publicity about this election, but we should all attempt to stay informed.
On Thursday, I spent many hours having heart tests performed. It was not something I would want to do every day, but the people who performed the test were professionals and made me as comfortable as possible. No issues were found at this time, but more tests are scheduled for this week. I guess it’s good that nothing serious was found, but somehow this has to be resolved. Resting most of the time is not something I want to do.
So far this week, I caught the feral cat again and then an opossum in the catch cage. Those are not the animals I am trying to catch. We are still looking for the missing dog. If you live in the area of Williams Road, Edwards Road, or even Battle Road near Byhalia, be on the lookout for a rather handsome mixed yellow lab with a black tip on his tail. He is extremely skittish. His family is looking for him. It would be awesome to reunite them.
My grand dog, Bentley, is recovering nicely. He is such an important part of my daughter’s family. Ironically, when they first got him, they were given the “wrong” puppy at the kennel. By the time the mistake was discovered neither family wanted to give up the puppy they had. He is right where he belongs. I hope the other family is as happy with their fur baby.
It’s almost time for the hummingbirds and I still have a feeder out for the winter birds. They are still happily feeding daily. I will leave that feeder out until they empty it one more time. Then I think they need to start finding worms and bugs and start building nests for their babies. I have one set already building their annual nest out under my shed and another set that seem to think behind one of my security cameras is a perfect nest building spot.
Another long-time coworker and friend passed away this week. Several others from Carrier whom I did not know as well also passed away. Others are battling serious illnesses. Many of us gave some of the best years of our lives working hard to make each day run smoothly. When I went there it was to work for three months. I worked there for more than 40 years.
Saturday was the youngest great grandson’s ½ year birthday gathering. He had the cutest little outfit that said “Half Way to One’ decorated with doughnuts. So we had doughnuts instead of cake. He loved his first doughnut a lot though he may have had more on him than in him. It was also my oldest daughter’s fiftieth birthday. I was 25 when she was bornwhere did those years go? We went out to eat, and although I have not been in the best of health, I made her a birthday cake completely from “scratch” since Ellen is too far away to make her one. It truly wore me out, but she was happy and it was good.
