Senior Social Hour while pup gets groomed

Chapter 76 begins with a busy week that included three trips to the Memphis Warehouse to pick up products for nutrition shack. That takes about an hour round trip, but it is an easy drive.

I’ve finished up five articles for the upcoming Profile Edition of The South Reporter. I find that everyone has a story. Not all are suitable for print in the local paper, but it is their story of life, defeat, and triumph.

Tuesday, I took Charlie for a full groom. He pretty much looked like a little abandoned pup before that. Before the hawk grabbed him a few years back and he had to be shaved completely down, he did not require haircuts, just brushings and baths. Somehow from that adventure, his hair forgot how to stop growing. He was excited when we first arrived because he had several new people to pet him, but he was not quite so happy when he realized I was leaving without him. He was, however, good for the groomer, and was quite handsome when I picked him up. He ignored me for a while as punishment for daring to leave him, but quickly decided it was in his best interest to make up with me.

He doesn’t go outside alone since the hawk adventure but sometimes he wanders too close to the road as I do not have a fenced yard. I invested in a collar with the beeping system if he went too far. Since he is seven, I wasn’t sure if he would catch on but he learned quickly to come back to the beep. One day this week he ignored the beep and kept heading for the road. I had never used more than the beep but tried the gentle buzz to see how he reacted. He immediately stopped and ran to the house. He hasn’t ignored the beep since so maybe we can use the beep from now on. Now if the neighbors would keep their four large somewhat aggressive dogs out of my yard and the hawks would stay away, he might be safe.

While he visited the groomer I went to the Senior Social Hour at the library in Byhalia. If you have a chance, you should attend on the first and third Tuesday at 1 p.m. And learn more about members of our great community. The first and third Tuesday are also the Byhalia Town Board meeting at 5:30 p.m. That are open to the public.

Wednesday started with the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce monthly Coffee and Commerce Meeting at 8 a.m. and then on to the exercise class at The Flame of Byhalia that meets at 10 a.m. each Wednesday. All are welcome to attend. Next up was taking my car in for an oil change since it is finally repaired from the December accident. I also made a short trip through Goodwill in Hernando and only bought one treasure-a specific kind of cup I enjoy drinking my coffee from. I realize there is very little I need but sometimes you don’t know you need it until you see it.
