Get to know the candidates

Last Sunday afternoon, I continued my quest to be useful by shredding papers to fill two large contractor’s garbage bags for my daughter who is selling one of her houses. They inherited a house and property from her in-laws and had to decide which house to keep. With the decision made, one house had to be emptied, including the attic where things tend to accumulate. Years of paperwork had to be shredded, and I could do that for them. We even found $20 tucked away in a birthday card. There is so much furniture and other items to combine from two households into one and many decisions to be made as to what to keep.

Monday night we were all set to play our first soccer games of the season, when the much needed rain began to fall and brought with it lightening, wind, and even a bit of hail. Other than canceling the games for the night, a few banners were damaged, and some trash cans turned over with the contents scattered. I know other areas received much worse. The rain was so badly needed, we certainly cannot complain. We were able to play games on Friday night with kids and parents enjoying the games.

On Tuesday, I was able to pick up and deliver another order for the shop. Two years ago I could hardly have done what I do now. I still don’t have a lot of strength or stamina but am glad to do what I can. I do get frustrated when I think I can hold up longer than I do, but then someone reminds me of my age. Mom was only four years older than I am now when she passed away, but she did have major health issues that I don’t have. None of us are promised tomorrow or even our next breath. Where will you spend eternity when you take that final breath on earth?

There is a special election scheduled for November 4 for Supervisor for Districts 1 and 3. These important positions make many decisions that affect our daily lives. Take the time to get to know the candidates in your district. Seek them out and ask them questions. Why do they want to be your supervisor? What other public offices have they held? What was accomplished during their term? What qualifications do they have for this position? Have they ever attended a Board of Supervisors meeting? Are they available to attend the meetings and other functions demanded of a Supervisor? What are their goals and objectives for Marshall County? What is their previous employment history? What have they done as a volunteer to help the community? Seek out people who know them, not just family members, and ask questions. I am not suggesting who you vote for, but I am encouraging you to register to vote for the candidate you believe can serve the county best.

Remember to keep your hummingbird feeders filled a bit longer as these little creatures prepare for their long journey south. My feeder has been a flurry of activity with ten to twelve hummers there most of the time.

Just a reminder that Bryson still needs your help to purchase a handicap van as his condition continues to deteriorate. Bank of Holly Springs has an account – For the Benefit of Bryson Peyton – where you can donate directly. There is also a Gofundme account for him.
