How to dress... never sure

The cooler weather only teased us for a few days, and summer returned with a fury. At least the humidity is lower, but it is still hot. I’m never quite sure how to dress for ball field nights. Do I wear long pants and a jacket or shorter pants and sandals? I keep both a fan and a small heater along with a bug zapper available for whatever the night will bring.

This week when my cameras notified me there was a motion near my porch it turned out to be a handsome blue tick hound. Fortunately, he had a collar with the owner’s name and number. A quick phone call was all that was needed to contact his grateful owner who happened to be on the road but would pick him up that evening. He spent the day on a leash on my porch complete with fresh water and lots of pets during the day. I encourage everyone to provide this simple information for your pet or get them chipped. Pets can get out with the best of preparation.

It is time for the hummingbirds to begin their journey south. There is lots of activity around my feeder. These beautiful little creatures amaze me. I have one that I am certain returns each year. He has some very unique markings. Be sure to leave your feeders out through October as there are always some late migrators.

There are so many local football games this time of year. If you are able, support the youth involved in your local community. The football players and coaches work so hard to be prepared to play the game. The cheerleaders have also put in many hours of practice. These will be treasured memories for many years to come.

It is nice to be able to do little things for my kids even though they are grown with families of their own. Thursday, one needed me to wait at their house for the plumber so they didn’t have to take off work. The backyard was peaceful with squirrels, birds, and a hawk enjoying their morning activities. Leaving there, I picked up an order for another of my kids, picked up allergy medicine for Charlie, delivered the order to the shop, worked at the office for a while and was off to the ball field for games and practices. Another day, a granddaughter had found a great camera on Marketplace and wanted me to go with her to check it out. It truly was a great deal. She purchased the camera and has already started using it. She has started her photography journey and is doing a great job.

Olivia continues her softball pitching and playing. She played in another tournament this weekend where she pitched some of the games. The teams they played were a bit more advanced than her team and they did not win any of these games but did well against them. She had a tremendous hit.
